LUANNE HUNT DELIVERS FIVE-STAR FILM - REVIEW

By Sami Ya, Independent Film Critic

Luanne Hunt is a Grammy-balloted singer/songwriter, who grew up in Pennsylvania. With numerous hits to her name, the famed singer is a force to be reckoned with in the North American music industry.

Written and directed by Luanne Hunt herself, ‘I Won’t Stop Singing’ is a documentary short that charts this illustrious singer’s rise to prominence.

Compact and concise, the film dives deep into Hunt’s tumultuous upbringing whilst simultaneously showing us her incredible resolve. As Hunt goes through her past, we cannot help but feel a kinship to her; she is someone who went through so much but never lost sight of her musical goals. Obstacle after obstacle came her way but Hunt would not be moved; rather she doubled down and after a few struggling years at the start of her career, she achieved stratospheric success.

The documentary is linearly structured, allowing Hunt to tell her story chronologically. Using photos from her past as well as audio interviews from those closest to her, Hunt paints a picture of a ferocious warrior who would never let anyone dictate what she wanted.

The narrative pacing is on point, keeping things interesting for the audience as Hunt intermittently appears onscreen to guide the plot. Thus, the 36- minute documentary whizzes by in a flash and by the end, we end up wanting more. This is partly due to the fantastic editing that showcases Hunt’s story in a wholesome, organic manner. Hunt comes across as someone extremely dedicated to her craft and an individual who does not take no for an answer. A singular force for change, she proves herself to be a one woman army, who will stop at nothing to make her dreams a reality.

Equally impressive is the sound design that not only provides a deep dive into Hunt’s greatest hits but also complements the visuals perfectly. As the audience is greeted to hit after hit, we see Hunt’s signature tunes develop with time and by the time her famous Christmas jingle comes along, she has transformed herself into a legend of the industry.

In its technical aspects, one great thing about the documentary is how visually striking it is. From stock footage of the Beatles to that of Patsy Cline, Hunt pays ode to her inspirations in style. She also includes a plethora of photos from her past, ensuring that audiences get a true sense of how her unrelenting passion came to be. The  interviews of Hunt herself provide a nice touch to the narrative.  And as the documentary zooms across the various points of the singer’s past, we get an accurate sense of why Hunt has become such a towering figure in the industry.

Thus, this is a fantastic and wholesome film that does Luanne Hunt justice as she embarks on an odyssey that will literally turn her life around. She does not know how to give up and her inspiring journey is a shining beacon for all future singers who think they might not be able to make it in the industry.

We give the film five stars out of five.
